Welcome to Leitrim

Leitrim is a county of Lakes and Legends and has many historical stories to tell. The County is all but landlocked with just two miles of coastline in Donegal Bay between Counties Sligo and Donegal.

The Shannon Erne waterway, Europe’s longest navigable waterway, stretches through the county. On it's banks are lively riverside towns and cruise bases, with friendly pubs and impromptu music sessions. Visit some of the wonderful attractions like the Costello Chapel, the smallest chapel in Europe, the Glencar Waterfall west of Manorhamilton or Parkes Castle in Dromahair.

Carrick-on-Shannon, built on the river Shannon is both the County town and the cruising Capital of the Shannon and the most northerly hire base on this famous river. Servicing the cruise fleet is a fantastic new modern marina and for Hen parties it’s a great alternative to some of the onshore attractions.

Carrick, as it is known is a thriving vibrant town and while it is acknowledged as an anglers paradise, it has many more exciting attractions to appeal to the modern Henparties. A walk through the Town to view the historical buildings is recommended, in particular a visit to the Costello Chapel. Carrick has some great shops for those in need of retail therapy and it also offers a wide variety of night-time entertainment and boasts many talented musicians providing lively sessions in local Hostelries.

There are several other Towns in the county with worthwhile attractions.

Drumshanbo has the Sliabh an Iariann Visitor centre. Manorhamilton visitor centre provides information on walks and sights of interest in the area. Ballymore, known as the friendly town offers angling, horse riding, boating, hill walking and golf and is the perfect base for a visit to the Marble Arch Caves.
