Welcome to Mullingar

Mullingar, county town of County Westmeath is a thriving business, administrative and industrial centre. It is located on the river Brosna and is encircled by the Royal Canal which with its locks links Dublin with the River Shannon.

A market town, Mullingar’s heritage dates back to Norman times. Its imposing renaissance Cathedral dominates the townscape and should not be missed.

Why Mullingar

There are so many places to see and things to do that the Henparty will be spoilt for choice.

Firstly there are some great hotels that have top class bedrooms and leisure facilities and boasting fine restaurants and wonderful menus.

For those that want to spend spend spend but save on accommodation there are plenty of bed and breakfast houses and self catering apartments and town houses.

Not all groups are into adrenalin rush sports and may just prefer to chill out with some spa treatment, which can be arranged through the hotels or concentrate on sightseeing where the options are brilliant. Top of the list is Belvedere House Gardens and park, A fascinating Georgian estate on 160 acres of lakeside Parklands including numerous follies and the famous Jealous Wall. It was the house of the wicked Earl, Robert Rochford who locked up his second wife for 31 years on a spurious charge of infidelity.

Belvedere House is a great place for groups and it remains open all year round. www.belvedere-house.ie for special events.

Energetic options, include paintballing and laser tag games, or why not try your skills as a rally driver on the karting track.

As Mullingar is practically on the Shannon, you could organise a cruise on Ireland’s longest river.
After 6.00pm, get lost in the thrills of greyhound racing before hitting one of over 50 pubs in the town.
Night life is great craic with options a plenty.

For those who enjoy their food, there are 30 restaurants serving a wide variety of menus, styles and prices.

Fore Abbey and Church is also well worth a visit. This Christian Monastery was founded by Saint Feichin in 630 AD.
Mullingar Arts Centre is located in the totally refurbished County Hall and has a 407 seat theatre, Art workshop, and Art Gallery. www.westmeathcoco.ie

There are also 3 golf clubs in the area if that’s what rings your bell.
