Why we love Athlone
Central
As mentioned earlier, Athlone is smack bang in the middle of Ireland. Trains run from Dublin to Galway, passing through Athlone. Intercity buses can drop you and the girls from any of the main cities in Ireland. And if the hens decide to travel by car, the main roads are sweet and easy. It really is one of the best locations to travel to for a hen!
It’s not small, it’s fun sized!
Athlone is the perfect size for a hen; it’s nearly impossible to lose someone in Athlone. Not so small that you will bump into the same barman working in the local shop, pub and petrol station. Because it is just the right size, there are brilliant restaurants and music venues, and the sound flows from lots of pubs... so bring your singing voices! It’s well worth a visit.
Take to the Water
Athlone is quite the maritime town. River cruises are a must here! If you have someone that knows their “Bow from their Stern” – the sailing term for “arse from elbow”, then a river cruise will turn your Hen Party into a brilliant experience. Lessons are given to those only used to playing with plastic ducks in the bath!

It’s quite an historical town, centred around the stunning Athlone Castle on the River Shannon.
How far is Athlone from Cork?
Not too far! It’s around 200km from Cork and usually takes just over 2 and a half hours to get to by car. You can also get the train from Cork Kent to Athlone Station. With a change or two, you’ll be there in roughly 4 hours.
How Far is Athlone from Dublin?
Dublin is only a stone’s throw away, around 2 hours by car (depending on traffic!). You can also get the bus or the train, which takes around the same time; however, the bus may be a little bit longer.

I booked a hen for a large group recently with Henparty.ie, it was such a great experience from start to finish. I explained to Melissa what we wanted, and she organised the package for us. The payment option was so easy. Everyone could pay off as they needed, and I didn't have to worry about chasing the money. We choose Athlone for our party and stayed in a 4-star hotel which was central to all activities booked -- no need for a taxi.
We had dinner in Gertie's Bistro; food was amazing and danced the night away in a reserved area in a late bar. We had wanted to do the river booze cruise which was cancelled a few days before our trip due to the weather, but Melissa was able to secure another activity for us. Melissa was on hand for any questions and wouldn't hesitate to book with them again. Thanks again Melissa for all your help.

She was fantastic from start to finish and the day and night went off without a hitch -- from the activity to the meal to the night club. She took the stress away from planning and organising. Excellent service. Right from the start I found the girls very helpful. They offered greets suggestions & ideas for our group size. They were always the end of the phone or email should I had any questions. We got a great deal of B&B, river cruise & 2 course dinner for €130 per person on a Saturday night in Athlone! All the hens felt like this was amazing value for money. Highly recommend booking with thehen.ie as it takes away all the hassle of doing it yourself. Thanks so much we had a ball!
