Why Sligo for a Hen Party?
Location
Sligo features great public transport options from all around the country. If you’re considering cheeky pints on the bus or the train (of course, we’d never recommend that!), or you don’t fancy the drive, it’s still really easy to get to.
That’s not all... It’s also located right by the sea. Boasting several blue flag beaches (some no more than 10 minutes away!), it’s the perfect hen location. For the adventurous hens who love a bit of sea-swimming, or just want to relax by the ocean, Sligo is a beautiful spot for a weekend away with the girls.
Excitement Awaits
We genuinely think Sligo is extremely hen-friendly... so what more can we say? There are plenty of lovely little cafes to stop into for a coffee or lunch. Sligo also has plenty of shopping with a new river walk, pretty boutiques, and all the high street stores. Plus, spas, salons, and all the pamper treatments are available in Sligo for the ladies who like to be spoiled.
Visit incredible beaches like Rosses Point Beach, Strandhill Beach (great for surfing; not safe for swimming), and Enniscrone Beach. For the golfers, you could always hit up the links, with plenty of interesting courses nearby – and sand and wind to bolster those shots! There are also several festivals held in Sligo throughout the year.
Nightlife
The Sligo nightlife has a fantastic reputation. There are bars, late bars, nightclubs – and they’re all hen-friendly. It’s also usually chock-full of other hen party groups having the craic... but the more, the merrier, we like to say!

Is Sligo good for a hen weekend?
We couldn’t say it any better – it's a gorgeous location with lots to explore, and amazing food and drink options. Plus, it’s hen-friendly... so yes, if you ask us, Sligo is amazing for a hen night or two! Not only is it perfect for the outdoorsy hen do crew, but a Sligo hen party package will also work for the girl gang that wants a little luxury, with all the spa and pamper options available.
How far away is Sligo from Derry?
Sligo is about 140km away from Derry, which is a two-hour drive. However, Sligo couldn’t be easier to get to, with regular buses connecting the two.
What is Sligo known for?
From spas to surfing, and from W.B. Yeats to the wonderful woods, Sligo is enchanting! There’s Sligo Abbey – built and rebuilt twice, old-school pubs for fabulous trad music, and The Model – a contemporary arts museum and gallery. It’s also known for being a wonderful hen weekend location, chock-full of hen-friendly pubs and restaurants!

Where else should I consider for my hen weekend?
If you’re looking to have a hen party outside of Sligo, we’d recommend Carrick-on-Shannon – it could very well be the hen party capital of Ireland! You could also head over to Westport, since it’s just as beautiful and picturesque. For a bigger location, why not consider somewhere like Galway, the perfect blend of artsy and fun?
