5 Reasons for a Cork Hen Party

9 Apr 2019
There are some truly wonderful towns in cities in Ireland to celebrate a Hen Party weekend. Galway, Carrick On Shannon and Kilkenny are all huge hits with the Hens of Ireland. I’ve been on Hens in all of these locations and it’s easy to see why. But there is one location that I think should be top of your list of places for a Hen Party, Cork. So, I thought I’d share 5 reasons for a Cork Hen Party.

1. Activities

I always think after the location is decided, one f the most exciting things to look forward to on a Hen is the activity. Quite often it’s an activity you may have never done or something you would never even think of doing in the first place. Like who really thinks about Building a Willy. A Cork Hen Party, however, boasts a pretty impressive list of hen party activities on offer and it has something for everyone.
If you’re like me and are currently daydreaming of a spa weekend. Cork has an incredible selection of award-winning spas from Castlemarytr resort, The Maryborough and Incydoney Lodge and Spa to name just a few. The hardest part really is choosing which treatment to get. I’m thinking a back massage, what about you?
Now, if you’re an active person and looking for an adrenaline hit before you step out for the Hen night. Unique to Cork is Ballyhass lakes near Mallow. It has an incredible amount of activities on offer at the centre from kayaking, zip-lining, the leap of faith, cable wakeboarding and even something to indulge the big kid inside you. An inflatable Water Park. I’ve been out to Ballyhass a few times and trust me when I say you’ll have an incredible time and you and your hens will leave smiling from ear to ear and sore from laughter.
The next activity I’d highly recommend is a cruise around Kinsale Harbour. Kinsale is only a short drive from Cork city and if you don’t fancy driving you can jump on a bus. The cruise will take you and around the harbour as you take in the breath-taking Irish coastlines. It’s so relaxing and brilliant fun and may I suggest bringing a cheeky bottle of prosecco to toast the bride at sea.
Another great option is a Treasure Hunt around Cork City. Now, this might not be on everyone’s list for a Hen Party activity. But I did this recently and have to say it was fantastic fun. And if you’re a little competitive you’ll love it even more. It’s great to get out and about. See Cork city and the sights as well as have some fun. It’s also a brilliant way to get a few funny photos of the Hen. She may have to give Barry Maloney a kiss on Patrick’s Street.

2. Food

All that messing and having fun on the Hen Party activity is bound to have worked up a hunger. All I can say is that you’re in for a treat as there are tons of fabulous restaurants, bistros, cafes and eateries in Cork to satisfy any pallet and suit any budget.
I personally love Cask on McCurtain Street. The food is exquisite and may I suggest pairing it one of their delicious cocktails. McCurtain street on a side note is such a cool street and side of Cork city. There are some wonderful bars and it has a great vibe on a Saturday night.
Staying with indulging your taste buds. Cork is a foodie lovers dream. I would highly recommend a stroll around the English market. You’ll be able to pick some great nibbles, treats and a bottle wine.
If you’re looking for something quick, Coqbull is a firm favourite with the people of Cork. As is Bunsen and Soho on grand parade is a hugely popular spot. And if you fancy enjoying a bite to eat right by the water, and a cocktail, of course, you must try Electric. If the sun is shining you’re in a for a treat.
Finally, the Oyster Tavern, which is just off Patrick’s street is a fabulous venue with food and drink to match.

3. Transport

One of the great things about Cork is that it's so easily accessed from every part of the country and from abroad too. We all have friends working and living abroad. So it’s handy that Cork Airport is so close to the city and gives the option to any friends abroad to fly in for the Hen.
If you don’t fancy driving you can take to the train to Cork and it’s only a short stroll in the heart of the city centre. And if you do fancy driving, all roads leading to Cork are great and you won’t be looking at a tough drive home afterwards.

4. Compact City Centre

Another great thing about Cork City centre is just how close everything is to each. All the shops, cafes, restaurants, bars and clubs are all in walking distance. So there’s no need for a taxi’s really unless you’re wearing those killer heels that are now killing your feet.
Also with everything being close together, it makes for a great vibe at night and as you make your way from bar to bar.

5. Value
